Browns Waive 5 Players, Add 5 Others, Including the Jets' Former Punter

Bob Levey

On Sunday, we reported that some roster moves appeared to be on the way, but to do so, the Cleveland Browns would have to waive some players since they were at the maximum of 90 players. On Monday, the team announced the release of five players and the addition of five players, each of whom tried out at the team's rookie minicamp this past weekend.

  • WR Mike Edwards
  • DL Paipai Falemalu
  • CB Kevin Barnes - Signed back on March 25, Barnes was formerly a third-round draft pick by the Redskins. He is the only veteran player to be released.
  • SS Ricky Tunstall
  • P Jake Schum - He was signed back on March 28. He didn't really have an impressive track record, and it's pretty clear that he was just being checked out.

Edwards, Falemalu, and Tunstall were all undrafted free agents. Back when I did my original posting of the undrafted players who were signed, those were the three players I really couldn't find much information about. Coincidence?

  • NT Nicolas Jean-Baptiste - A second-year player, we reported the forthcoming signing of Jean-Baptiste on Sunday, after he announced it on his Twitter and Phil Taylor congratulated him.
  • LB Ausar Walcott
  • DB Akeem Auguste
  • DB Abdul Kanneh
  • P T.J. Conley - I guess you can call Conley our "veteran" punter now. He punted the entire season for the Jets in 2011, but wasn't good enough to retain the job in 2012. Still, that's more NFL experience than Spencer Lanning, the Browns' other punter.
