Free Agent S Kerry Rhodes Says He's Considering Four Teams

It's time to fire up the Kerry Rhodes-to-Cleveland rumors.

We have not covered the safety position yet in our training camp previews for the Browns, but everyone knows that the team could still be in search for an upgrade at the position next to veteran T.J. Ward. The other starting safety spot is currently held by second-year mean Tashaun Gipson, and he is currently projected to see training camp competition from Johnson Bademosi and rookie Jamoris Slaughter.

Rhodes, a veteran who played for defensive coordinator Ray Horton in Arizona last year, is still a free agent. In an interview published by Solomon Crenshaw Jr. on on Thursday, Rhodes said that he is interested in four teams and that something could materialize in a week or two:

"I can't talk about it in depth but there's a good four teams that I'm looking at. There are ongoing discussions. I'm trying to see which one will be the best fit for me. You will see me, though."

The Bessemer native declined to name his suitors. "I don't want to sway the negotiations at all," he said, adding that an announcement could come in a week or so. "That would be the ideal. Most situations aren't ideal any way. You have to adapt to it and move on."

After releasing undrafted free agent linebacker Ausar Walcott, the Browns did not sign anybody else, meaning they still currently sit at 89 players. They have plenty of cap space to make a guy like Rhodes happy, but is the team interested in a one-year rental vs. developing young talent like they are at a bunch of other positions? We'll see if any specific teams emerge in rumors over the next week or so.
