Fan Perception: What We Learned About the Browns Cornerbacks Heading Into Training Camp

Chris Graythen

In each of our training camp previews, we conduct a poll at the end of the post. The polls are intended to gauge fan perception about certain players or roles on the Cleveland Browns heading into training camp. They help set the initial expectations that fans have on certain players. Here is a summary of each of those polls for the cornerbacks position:

Which cornerback will start opposite of Joe Haden?

It's very clear that the majority of fans are firmly behind Leon McFadden heading into training camp. I don't think there is a dislike for Buster Skrine and Chris Owens, it's just that the reputation of them being more suited for the nickelback position lingers in everyone's mind. If you haven't seen Krupka's film room piece on Skrine, check it out now. Even though I prefer Skrine at the nickel, I actually voted for him to be the guy who begins the season starting, opposite Haden. I just have a hard time believing a third-round rookie starts on Day 1 at cornerback. [Read Part 1 of the CB Preview]

Which of these three players are you most compelled by to see earn a roster spot?

The voting seemed to be what I expected here. Kent Richardson has some notoriety for being the top defensive back in the Arena Football League, as well as an interception hog last year. I voted for Trevin Wade because I was a big fan of the performance he put on in training camp and the preseason in 2012. Of course, Wade could just end up being my next Coye Francies, I guy I heavily advocated only to see him amount to nothing in Cleveland (speaking of which, the Raiders just waived Francies today). Which of these three players do you like the most?

Right before I took the screenshot of the poll, I cast my vote for Akeem Auguste. Little did I know that the vote would place him in a dead-even tie with Josh Aubrey. I voted for Auguste because of him making the roster after a tryout, and being pointed out by the media for making an interception. Silly reasoning, but that's fine. [Read Part 3 of the CB Preview]

I hope everyone is ready for Wednesday, because I will be unveiling my annual pre-camp 53-man roster projection for the Browns.
