OLB Jabaal Sheard is Day-to-Day With Knee Injury; CB Chris Owens With More Foot Problems

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns are getting set for their preseason tune-up against the Indianapolis Colts this Saturday, in which most of the starters will play the whole first half and one series in the third quarter. A couple of players are battling through injuries, though, which could make head coach Rob Chudzinski give them the day off as a "precaution." Here are the players who have their status in question:

  • RG Jason Pinkston - There is no update on Pinkston, but we do know that OG Garrett Gilkey and OL Oniel Cousins are rotating on the first-team offensive line at right guard. The Browns may still bring in somebody else to compete with both of them.

  • RDE Desmond Bryant - It sucks to have back spasms, eh? Bryant has been idle for the last couple of practices with them, but they're not serious enough to require surgery. Filling in for Bryant on the first-team defense was DE Billy Winn.

  • OLB Jabaal Sheard - A team spokesman told the media that Sheard is day-to-day with a knee injury. Sheard has been a monster this preseason, but this isn't expected to be anything serious. With OLB Barkevious Mingo also dealing with an injury (bruised lung), OLB Quention Groves took Sheard's spot with the first-team defense.

  • CB Chris Owens - He already missed one preseason game with a foot injury, and Owens was limited during practice Wednesday with a "sore foot." Because of that, for the first time this camp (to my knowledge), rookie CB Leon McFadden saw some reps with the first-team defense. If Owens is rested for this week's game, maybe the rookie will get a crack at seeing QB Andrew Luck. McFadden reportedly picked off QB Brian Hoyer twice in practice.

The Browns still haven't placed RB Dion Lewis on season-ending injured reserve, but Chudzinski indicated the other day that he seemed to be headed that direction.
