Dolphins-Browns Injury Report: DE Ahtyba Rubin Unlikely to Play, CB Buster Skrine Questionable

New, comments

It's not looking good for DE Ahtyba Rubin playing on Sunday, and CB Buster Skrine is questionable as well.

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

What's the one thing that can kill a little bit of your team's optimism heading into a season? Injuries! Things were going pretty well for the Cleveland Browns up until Friday, when a couple of defenders were listed as questionable heading into Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins.

  • First, OLB Barkevious Mingo has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. There is hope that he can face the Ravens, but Mingo and the coaching staff are still being very vague when discussing a potential return for Mingo.

  • On Friday, starting DE Ahtyba Rubin showed up on the injury report with a calf injury. He did not practice Friday, and he's missed a couple of games with calf-related injuries in the past. On Saturday, Anthony Lima from 92.3 The Fan reported that DE Billy Winn will likely start on Sunday, with Rubin being inactive:

  • On Thursday, starting CB Buster Skrine landed on the injury report with a shoulder injury. He was limited on Thursday and did not practice on Friday. If Skrine can't go, CB Chris Owens would move into a starting role, with rookie third-round pick Leon McFadden being the third cornerback. That's a bit scary, considering McFadden's struggles during the preseason. Hopefully Skrine can go, but could the signing of WR Tori Gurley actually be an indicator of Skrine's status? Skrine is usually a gunner on special teams, and Gurley did that in the preseason.

  • Everyone else on the Browns is healthy and expected to be at full strength. For the Dolphins, the injury to keep an eye on is CB Dimitri Patterson. He hurt his ankle this week at practice, and was expected to start for the Dolphins. An ankle injury kept him out for a lot of games in 2012 with the Browns. DE Dion Jordan is recovered from his injury and ready to contribute.
