Browns Waive RB Ben Tate

Breaking news this morning out of Berea...

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns have reportedly waived RB Ben Tate. This was first reported by Zac Jackson of FS Ohio.

The team has since confirmed the release.

General manager Ray Farmer released a statement, per Kevin Jones of ClevelandBrowns.com:

With all the transactions we make while constructing our roster, it will always be our intent to do what is best for our football team," said Farmer. "This move is no different and we wish Ben the best going forward.

Per Jones's article as well, Mike Pettine's comments point towards West and Crowell splitting carries:

We also look at running styles against a particular opponent," said Pettine. "You look at the game. These are the runs that we have for this game plan. Who executes these particular runs the best? It’s more than just, ‘Hey, he looked better in practice than he did.’ Sometimes it’s a style matchup decision.

Tate's contract was very team friendly, so with the emergence of the two rookie backs, Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell, the move is not surprising.

What do you all make of the move, do you like the Browns going forward with the pair of rookies?
