The Bills were trying to finish off a long drive at the start of the second quarter, but on third down, QB Kyle Orton's pass to WR Sammy Watkins was jumped by FS Jim Leonhard and intercepted for a touchback. After the Browns strung together another good-looking drive, they had to settle for a 37-yard field goal attempt by K Billy Cundiff...which he they promptly missed, keeping it a 3-0 game.
The Browns' defense continued to hold strong, forcing a three-and-out from the Bills. Likewise, the Bills stopped Cleveland for a three-and-out, which included their first sack of the game, and Cleveland punted back to Buffalo. Cleveland then got a sack on Orton on their next drive on third down, forcing a punt.
Working in the two-minute offense, QB Brian Hoyer nearly threw a pick six on one play, he was picked off on the next play when trying to attack downfield, but it looked to be a mistake by WR Josh Gordon, who didn't cut in on his route. The Browns' defense continued their shutout, though: CB Joe Haden blocked the 53-yard field goal attempt by K Dan Carpenter as time expired in the first half. It's 3-0 Browns heading into the locker room. The Bills will get the ball first in the second half.
