The Browns' defense started things with a bang as RB Craig Robertson picked off QB Andy Dalton on a pass intended for TE Jermaine Gresham to set Cleveland's offense up in the red zone. With five straight run plays, the final one saw RB Ben Tate take it into the end zone for a touchdown to go up 7-0.
The Browns' defense had another great stop, but then on the ensuing punt, S Jim Leonhard fumbled while trying to return the ball, giving Cincinnati the ball at the 32 yard line. Dalton remained awful, though, so the Bengals had to settle for a 43-yard field goal to make it 7-3.
Cleveland had a big kickoff return negated by a holding penalty on their next drive. QB Brian Hoyer's first pass went for a first down, but OG John Greco blew a block on the next play, allowing Hoyer to get drilled before he could even hand the ball off to RB Terrance West. The Browns got close to a first down, but had to punt. The Bengals went three-and-out, and a bad punt gave Cleveland good field position. The Browns are driving as we head to the second quarter of play.
