The Cleveland Browns received the ball first to begin the game. After picking up a first down, the drive stalled when QB Brian Hoyer had some time to throw but couldn't find an open receiver. The Colts went three-and-out on their first drive, though, and Colts P Pat McAfee's punt was shanked, giving the Browns great starting field position at their own 45 yard line.

The Browns could do nothing with that field position, though, after a false start penalty on LT Joe Thomas, two consecutive plays in which the Colts got a free blitzer, and then Hoyer throwing well high for WR Andrew Hawkins on third down. Cleveland blew a chance to play the field position game when P Spencer Lanning had his punt roll into the end zone for a touchback.

The Browns' defense forced another three-and-out, and WR Travis Benjamin had the team's best punt return of the season, returning the punt 37 yards to the Colts' 46 yard line. After a nice completion to TE Jordan Cameron and a couple of nice runs by RB Isaiah Crowell, the Browns had the ball at the 9 yard line. Hoyer forced a pass over the middle to TE Jim Dray, and it was tipped and intercepted by former Browns S Mike Adams.

Cleveland's defense finally gave up a first down to the Colts, but followed that up with a stop and forced a punt. The Browns went three-and-out again, but pinned the Colts back to the 10 yard line. On 3rd-and-10, the Browns came with the blitz and got to QB Andrew Luck...and then OLB Paul Kruger knocked it out and the ball went into the end zone with ILB Craig Robertson jumping on top of it for the touchdown! Cleveland has a 7-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
