2014 DBN Mock Draft: Tennessee Titans Select CB Justin Gilbert at No. 11

Justin Gilbert, the consensus #1 cornerback, happens to be one of the top players available at this point. With Aaron Donald off the board, I detoured from the pass-rusher mentality. Anthony Barr is a tempting pick here, but with the acquisition of Shaun Phillips, maybe grabbing an OLB can wait for later in the draft.

The Titans lost a good cornerback in Free Agency  to Tampa Bay. Alterraun Verner’s 5 interceptions and 23 pass deflections will be missed. Who is next in line to cover the void of Verner?  Blidi Wreh-Wilso, a 3rd-round pick last year who was pretty much irrelevant. Sound familiar to Browns fans? Let’s not forget that Andrew Luck terrorizes the AFC South division. The Titans need help to stop him. Gilbert is a top-notch athlete with the ability to start right away and be a factor in the Titans defense.  Drafting him to play opposite of Jason McCourty just makes total sense to me.

A lot of mock drafts seem to have the Titans going with either Gilbert, Barr, or a quarterback, so it'll be interesting to see if another prospect emerges for them over the next month or so. Gilbert seems like a necessity, given what the Titans lost at cornerback, but my gripe with Tennessee is the fact that they weren't able to retain Verner in the first place.
