2014 DBN Mock Draft: St. Louis Rams Select QB Blake Bortles at No. 13

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

With the 13th pick in the 2014 Dawgs By Nature Community Mock Draft, the St. Louis Rams select...

Blake Bortles, QB, UCF

This selection and write-up was made by Matt Wood:

If you know anything about me, you would know that I am not in love with Bortles. I had a few options to go with on this pick, OT Taylor Lewan, WR Mike Evans, Ha Ha Clinton Dix and something that I never thought would reach me, one of the top four Quarterbacks.

I have no idea what Sam Bradford is, and chances are that he is nothing special. If so, the Rams need to find a Quarterback ASAP and they do it here. Bortles is a guy who can come in and sit behind Bradford and learn. If Bradford falters this season, the Rams can either cut him in the last year of his deal or trade him. If they are smart, they can flip Bradford for a pick and already have a new option to go to. If Bradford plays extremely well, they can hold onto Bortles and use him to drive down Bradford's price tag, or turn him into a high pick down the road.

Evans would have been nice to add to this offense, but just like the first pick, there are just too many good WR's in this draft to use one here. For Lewan, he would be an upgrade at RT, but I'm not passing on a possible franchise QB for a RT. Same for Clinton Dix.

When it is all said and done, the Rams have finished round one with Jadeveon Clowney and Blake Bortles, the top two players in the entire draft according to some. Good start for the Rams making a big leap in the NFC West.

"I'm not passing on a possible franchise QB for a RT." Am I sensing a little dig there, Matt?

The Rams coming are going to come away with a great first round pretty much regardless of what they do, owning the No. 2 and No. 13 picks. I agree that the Rams are in a position where they need to seriously consider parting ways with Sam Bradford, but I just don't see them pulling the trigger in the first round this year.

The Chicago Bears are up next, led by The Beast Mode.
