WR Josh Gordon is in the headlines again for all of the wrong reasons. The Cleveland Browns' star receiver, who is already facing a potential one-year ban for substance abuse violations, was issued a speeding ticket in Strongsville, OH, according to WKYC. The bigger issue, though? Gordon's passenger was cited for possession of marijuana:
Gordon's passenger was issued a citation for possession of marijuana in an amount under 200 grams during the traffic stop. The marijuana was found in a blue bag with identification, and Gordon's passenger admitted it was theirs on the scene.
We're not here to debate the legality of marijuana. The fact is that it's banned by the NFL, so no matter how one tries to spin this, Gordon should not be using it or in association with others who are using it. Regarding the traffic ticket, Gordon was issued a $187 fine on Sunday, May 25th, 2014 for driving at 74 MPH in a 60 MPH zone. Browns general manager Ray Farmer issued the following statement regarding the matter:
"We are gathering information regarding the situation. We will not have any further comment until the appropriate time."
This situation might not affect Gordon's ongoing appeal, but it certainly doesn't help matters. A decision on the appeal could be coming any day now; earlier today, the NFL announced that Arizona Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington has been suspended for the year for violating the league's substance abuse program.
