It was a wacky first round leading up to the Browns' first pick. They started off with No. 4 overall and had their choice of WR Sammy Watkins, OLB Khalil Mack, and QB Johnny Manziel, but passed on all of them by trading with the Buffalo Bills. The trade with the Bills netted them a 1st round and 4th round pick in 2015, which was awesome, to move down to No. 9 overall this year. When the Vikings were on the clock at No. 8 overall, the Browns moved up one spot -- trading No. 145 overall (a 5th rounder) -- and selected Gilbert. For a second, when Roger Goodell said, "J...," I thought it was "Johnny." Instead, it was "Justin."
When the staff at Dawgs By Nature compiled our Browns big boards, Gilbert was cumulative listed as the No. 13 player on our big boards. It's not a bust of a pick by any stretch, but it's not what we expected at all over these past few weeks.
Gilbert instantly gives the Browns a more evolved secondary, where the tandem of CB Joe Haden and CB Justin Gilbert will be scary to mess with.
We have to give credit to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio, who said that the Browns were very much interested in CB Justin Gilbert on Wednesday. What do you think, Browns fans?
