Incredibly, we have almost made it all the way through the first cycle of the group stages at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and there has not been a single tie. To compare, during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, there were six ties during the first cycle of the group stage.
Today, the Group G of Death kicks their action off, including United States vs. Ghana at 6:00 PM ET. Ghana has been a thorn in the United State's side for the past two World Cups. In 2010, Ghana defeated the United Stated 2-1 in the Round of 16 to eliminate them from the tournament. The circumstances were a bit different in 2006, but Ghana defeated the United States in the final cycle of the group stages, allowing them to move on to the Round of 16.
Can the United States finally get their revenge on Ghana? If they have any chance of competing in Group G, the United States must win today -- Germany and Portugal are among the best teams in the tournament. Speaking of Germany and Portugal, those two teams square off at noon ET today. Sandwiched between those two games is Iran vs. Nigeria today.
