Browns Reportedly Sign CB Justin Gilbert to Rookie Contract

Jason Miller

On the first day that rookies reported to Berea in preparation for Cleveland Browns training camp, the team reached an agreement with CB Justin Gilbert, the 8th overall pick of the draft, according to reports.

With Gilbert coming on board, the Browns have now signed all six of their draft picks. The previous draft pick to have signed was OG Joel Bitonio way back on June 22. At the time, I said, "There is no doubt that the Browns will reach a deal with [Gilbert] before the start of training camp." Little did we know that Gilbert would be one of the final two players to sign his deal -- the only unsigned draft pick remaining as of this post is OT Taylor Lewan.

It was important that Gilbert not miss any time if we wants to have any shot at becoming an opening-day starter. CB Joe Haden is already locked in at one starting spot, while CB Buster Skrine will probably be the other starting cornerback at the beginning of camp.

The numbers below are projections for Gilbert's original contract. At this point in time, it is unclear as to which side budged on the "offset language" in Gilbert's contract, assuming that is what was holding things up.
