On Thursday, the Cleveland Browns announced the signing of ILB Caleb McSurdy (6-1, 241 lbs). McSurdy was originally a seventh-round draft choice by the Dallas Cowboys in 2012. He finished that preseason with 4 tackles, but was placed on injured reserve for the entire season after suffering an Achilles injury in camp.
McSurdy was with the Cowboys all the way through the end of training camp in 2013, but he did not make the final cut. He wasn't on anyone's roster until the St. Louis Rams signed him to their practice squad in early December. He was with the Rams up until the start of training camp a few weeks ago, when the team waived him.
The Browns had already opened up a roster spot for McSurdy on Tuesday, when they waived TE Kyle Auffray. Auffray never ended up seeing any action for the Browns, and probably wasn't needed any more once TE Jordan Cameron started practicing again.
