Add another name to the growing list of potential Kyle Shanahan replacements. This morning Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Browns recently interviewed Mike Martz for their open offensive coordinator position.
Here’s a wildcard: The #Browns recently interviewed ex-#Rams head coach Mike Martz for their offensive coordinator position, per 2 sources
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 20, 2015
Martz, 63, once the orchestrator of the Greatest Show On Turf, has been out of football since 2011. He last coached with the Bears as their offensive coordinator in 2011.
This, at least on the surface, appears to be the Browns doing their due diligence. However, it also does look like the Browns are starting to grasp at straws. Who knows, Martz could come in and recapture the magic of his time with the Rams. Though, that does seem far-fetched.
We'll continue to keep adding names to the list until we get a winner. But, for now, what do you make of Martz's name being tossed in the search?
