The Browns' defense forced a three-and-out to open the game and had great starting field position, but Cleveland went three-and-out and then gave Baltimore the ball with good field position after a chop block penalty on their punt. QB Joe Flacco then marched his team down the field and took it in himself on a 1-yard quarterback bootleg, giving the Ravens a 7-0 lead.
QB Josh McCown then led the Browns down the field via the passing game, but after a sack on third down, the team settled for a 43-yard field goal to make it a 7-3 game. Flacco led the Ravens right back down the field before the end of the quarter with a 48-yard bomb to WR Kamar Aiken, followed by a big run by RB Justin Forsett. Flacco then connected with FB Kyle Juszczyk for an easy 8-yard touchdown. The Ravens lead 14-3 heading into the second quarter.
