Cleveland began the third quarter with a bang: a 27-yard pass to TE Gary Barnidge and then a 22-yard run by RB Robert Turbin. Their next two runs were stuffed, though, and Cleveland couldn't convert on third down, forcing them to settle for a 44-yard field goal attempt, which K Travis Coons connected on to trim the Rams' lead to 10-6.

On the Rams' next drive, RB Todd Gurley broke free for a 48-yard gain on the ground. After the Rams got a first down in the red zone, the run defense got a stop on first down and then DL Randy Starks blew through for a sack on second down. The third down pass for TE Jared Cook fell incomplete, forcing the Rams to settle for a 35-yard field goal by K Greg Zuerlein, which he sliced to the right -- no good!

Cleveland had a combination of big penalties and big plays on their next drive, but the penalties won out and they had to punt from near mid-field toward the end of the third quarter. QB Nick Foles got aggressive against CB Pierre Desir then, first by getting a long pass interference penalty against him, and then hitting him on a bomb down to the 1 yard line. From there, Gurley punched it in to give the Rams a 17-6 lead.
