QB Josh McCown took a big shot to the midsection on a third-down incomplete pass to open the second half, forcing the Browns to punt. On the Cardinals' next possession, after Arizona picked up a 3rd-and-1 via the ground on a questionable spot, QB Carson Palmer hit WR Michael Floyd deep down the sideline for a 60-yard touchdown pass on CB Joe Haden, cutting the Browns' lead to 20-17.
McCown took a couple of big shots again on the next drive, but stayed in the game. He made a nice third-down throw to WR Brian Hartline, but the veteran receiver couldn't secure the pass. On the Browns punt, Arizona had a big return into Cleveland territory. QB Carson Palmer immediately went deep again, getting a completion inside the Browns 10 yard line. On a 3rd-and-goal from the 1 yard line, Palmer found TE Troy Niklas for his second touchdown of the game, as Arizona re-took the lead at 24-20.
Hartline couldn't hang on to another pass on the following possession that would have moved the chains, and Cleveland had to punt. The Cardinals began running the ball to start their next drive, but then Palmer threw an ill-advised pass downfield that was picked off by FS Tashaun Gipson. Cleveland went three-and-out, though, punting again before the end of the third quarter. Arizona fumbled on their next possession in their own territory, giving the Browns great field position.
