The Steelers muffed a punt to begin the second quarter, but fell on top of the ball. QB Ben Roethlisberger remained in the game. He completed a bomb to WR Martavis Bryant, beating CB Charles Gaines. Gaines came back from behind and stripped him of the football, with CB K'Waun Williams alertly recovering it.

On the Browns' next drive, OLB Arthur Moats nearly snapped the neck of QB Johnny Manziel with a vicious facemask foul. Cleveland was putting together a nice drive, but then a run play on 2nd-and-short was blown up and Manziel took a third down sack, forcing another punt mid-way through the second quarter.

Roethlisberger moved the ball downfield with a pass to TE Heath Miller and then a big pass interference call on Gaines. The defense forced a third-down sack in the red zone, though, leading to another field goal to make it a 9-3 game. However, DL Armonty Bryant was flagged for leverage on the field goal try, giving the Steelers a first down. Back to a 6-3 game, Roethlisberger hit WR Antonio Brown for a touchdown to make it a 12-3 game. The Steelers went for two, and Roethlsiberger hit Brown again to make it a 14-3 game.

On the first play of Cleveland's next drive, WR Andrew Hawkins fumbled, with Pittsburgh recovering. The Steelers quickly drove down the field again, and Pittsburgh went for it on 4th-and-goal from the 1 yard line with under two minutes to play. The defense stopped the pass attempt to the corner, but Manziel had to take over at his own 1 yard line. The Browns went three-and-out without gaining a yard and had to punt right back to Pittsburgh with a minute left in the half. Roethlisberger quickly made the Browns pay, hitting a wide open Bryant, who easily burned CB Pierre Desir. It's 21-3 Steelers heading into the half.
