Cleveland received the ball first to start the game. After QB Johnny Manziel converted one third down pass to WR Travis Benjamin, on the next third down, Benjamin couldn't haul in a pass that hit him in the facemask and the Browns had to punt.

The Bengals converted a 3rd-and-long to get into Cleveland territory, and then converted a 4th-and-inches to get into a goal-to-go situation. On first down, QB Andy Dalton fired a pass to TE Tyler Eifert over the middle for a touchdown, giving the Bengals a 7-0 lead mid-way through the first quarter.

The Browns responded with an effective offensive drive, one that even saw WR Dwayne Bowe get his first catch of the year! After getting into a goal-to-go situation, though, a first-down run by RB Duke Johnson went for a big loss after the Bengals were ready for it. They had no luck on second- and third-down, leading to a 27-yard field goal by K Travis Coons at the end of the quarter. The Bengals are up 7-3 heading into the second quarter.
