The 49ers went for it on 4th-and-1 to begin the second quarter, but was sacked. Cleveland marched down the field again, getting into field goal range. Another big run by RB Isaiah Crowell would've put the ball at the 1 yard line, but a holding penalty brought it back. Cleveland still converted a first down two plays later, despite facing a 1st-and-20. Facing a goal-to-go situation, the Browns had to settle for a 26-yard field goal to take a 10-0 lead.
Both teams then traded three-and-outs, with Cleveland's drive ending after the 49ers brought pressure for the first time on the afternoon, leading to a sack. The 49ers then had a big punt return, setting them up in field goal range. The 49ers went three-and-out again, as K Phil Dawson came out to cheers for a 44-yard field goal attempt, which he hit right down the middle to make it a 10-3 game.
The Browns' next drive started ugly after a false start and then a big sack. On 3rd-and-27 near his own end zone, QB Johnny Manziel was sacked for a safety, but the defender ripped Manziel down by his facemask, giving the team a fresh set of downs. The team then continued to drive inside the two-minute warning. Manziel then tried to make a Manziel-like play, rolling away from pressure and then throwing back to the middle of the field, but the pass was picked off, giving the 49ers a chance to strike. The 49ers quickly went three-and-out, though, and that was it for the first half. The 49ers will get the ball to begin the third quarter.
