Below, we analyze the snap counts on defense for the Cleveland Browns' Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Defensive Line
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
DL | Desmond Bryant | 41 | 69% | 1 tackle (1 combined). 1 quarterback hit. |
DL | Danny Shelton | 39 | 66% | 1 assist (1 combined). |
DL | Jamie Meder | 30 | 51% | 2 tackles (2 combined). 1 tackle for loss. |
DL | John Hughes | 29 | 49% | 2 tackles, 1 assist (3 combined). |
DL | Xavier Cooper | 21 | 36% | No stats registered. |
The Ravens' rushing game totaled 23 carries for 104 yards. Although he didn't have a breakout game, it was a bit of a bummer to see Terrance West have 7 carries for 37 yards (5.3 YPC). On the Browns' game-winning field goal try, the pressure came from the side that included first-round picks Cameron Erving and Danny Shelton. Besides one tackle for a loss by Jamie Meder during the game, the defensive line played a pedestrian game against backup offensive linemen.
Outside Linebacker
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
OLB | Paul Kruger | 39 | 66% | 1 tackle (1 combined). 1 quarterback hit. |
OLB | Armonty Bryant | 34 | 58% | No stats registered. |
OLB |
Nate Orchard |
25 | 42% | 1 tackle, 1 assist (2 combined). |
OLB |
Barkevious Mingo |
19 | 32% | 1 tackle (1 combined). |
Getting close isn't enough, but I did think that Paul Kruger forced Matt Schaub to move in the pocket or abandon the play a few times. Pro Football Focus agreed, saying, Kruger led the team with 5 pressures on 20 pass rush snaps. I wonder if Nate Orchard's snaps were reduced due to the groin injury he suffered late in the week.
Inside Linebacker
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
ILB | Karlos Dansby | 59 | 100% | 3 tackles, 1 assist (4 combined). 1 interception, 1 pass defended, 1 touchdown, 1 tackle for loss. |
ILB | Christian Kirksey | 30 | 51% | 3 tackles (3 combined). |
ILB | Craig Robertson | 28 | 47% | 3 tackles, 2 assists (5 combined). |
ILB | Tank Carder | 1 | 2% | No stats registered. |
I believe it was Karlos Dansby and Christian Kirksey who combined on a pathetic tackling attempt on Buck Allen, allowing him to score a touchdown. Dansby did have some redemption later on, making a good read and athletic interception in zone coverage that he took back for a pick six.
Safety
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
S | Tashaun Gipson | 58 | 98% | 6 tackles (6 combined). 1 tackle for loss. |
S | Donte Whitner |
58 | 98% | 6 tackles (6 combined). 1 tackle for loss. |
S | Jordan Poyer |
3 | 5% | 1 tackle (1 combined). |
In his first game back from a concussion, Donte Whitner seemed a bit slow to react to balls that were coming his way, although maybe he was thinking about the tackle rather than the interception. Tashaun Gipson had a great individual play late in the game to stop a tight end screen pass.
Cornerback
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
CB |
Tramon Williams |
59 | 100% | 3 tackles, 1 assist (4 combined). 1 interception, 1 pass defended. |
CB | K'Waun Williams | 47 | 80% | 3 tackles, 1 assist (4 combined). |
CB | Justin Gilbert |
19 | 32% | 1 tackle (1 combined). |
CB |
Charles Gaines |
8 | 14% | No stats registered. |
CB | Johnson Bademosi | 1 | 2% | No stats registered. |
Tramon Williams logged his first interception as a member of the Browns, coming in the final two minutes of the game to set up the team's game-winning field goal attempt. Justin Gilbert finally got a start, but unfortunately left with a concussion on a kickoff return, so we still don't get to evaluate him. K'Waun Williams saw some work on the outside once Gilbert left, but he had one of his worst games of the year going up against Kamar Aiken. It wasn't like he was smoked, he just was beat on some plays he typically isn't.
