Below, we analyze the snap counts on defense for the Cleveland Browns' Week 15 game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Defensive Line
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
DL | Desmond Bryant | 39 | 55% | 1 tackle, 2 assists (3 combined). 1.5 sacks, 1 tackle for loss, 2 quarterback hits. |
DL | Danny Shelton |
36 | 51% | 4 tackles, 3 assists (7 combined). 1 tackle for loss. |
DL | Xavier Cooper | 32 | 45% | 1 tackle, 3 assists (4 combined). |
DL | John Hughes | 29 | 41% | 1 assist (1 combined). |
DL | Jamie Meder | 26 | 37% | 3 assists (3 combined). |
DL | Randy Starks | 26 | 37% | 1 assist (1 combined). 1 quarterback hit. |
Desmond Bryant leads the Browns with 6 sacks on the season, including 3 in his past two games. I thought Danny Shelton played a solid game and is slowly showing progress. He hasn't had the impact I thought he would right off the bat as a rookie, but the signs are there that he can be a force with an offseason to work on things.
Outside Linebacker
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
OLB | Paul Kruger | 40 | 56% | 2 tackles (2 combined). 1 quarterback hit. |
OLB | Armonty Bryant Armonty BryantNate Orchard | 36 | 51% | 1 assist (1 combined). |
OLB |
Armonty Bryant |
28 | 39% | 3 tackles (3 combined). 2 quarterback hits. |
OLB |
Barkevious Mingo |
20 | 28% | 1 tackle, 1 assist (2 combined). |
The Browns were getting their fair share of licks on the quarterback, hitting Russell Wilson 10 times during the game. Wilson still used his escapability to extend drives, but overall, I thought the pass-rushing was adequate and on pace with what the team did against the 49ers the previous week.
Inside Linebacker
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
ILB | Karlos Dansby | 71 | 100% | 4 tackles, 6 assists (10 combined). 4 quarterback hits. |
ILB | Craig Robertson | 38 | 54% | 2 tackles, 3 assists (5 combined). |
ILB | Christian Kirksey | 35 | 49% | 1 tackle, 3 assists (4 combined). 0.5 sacks, 1 quarterback hit. |
Karlos Dansby led the team with 10 tackles and 4 hits on the quarterback. Craig Robertson and Christian Kirksey had to of been on the field at the same time for a couple of plays, probably in goal-to-go situations.
Safety
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
S | Tashaun Gipson | 69 | 97% | 5 tackles, 4 assists (9 combined). |
S | Donte Whitner |
68 | 96% | 3 tackles, 2 assists (5 combined). |
S | Jordan Poyer |
9 | 13% | No stats registered. |
Despite being second on the team in tackles, this was not a good game for Tashaun Gipson. He missed several tackles and gave up several completions in coverage. He has not done anything this year to warrant a massive contract, either from the Browns or another NFL team. It'll be interesting to see what type of deal he gets this offseason, and from who.
Cornerback
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
CB | Tramon Williams | 69 | 97% | 5 tackles (5 combined). 1 pass defended. |
CB | Charles Gaines | 69 | 97% | 2 tackles (2 combined). 1 pass defended. |
CB | Johnson Bademosi |
30 | 42% | 1 tackle, 1 assist (2 combined). |
CB | Pierre Desir |
11 | 15% | 2 tackles (2 combined). |
The front seven played pretty well against the Seahawks, but the secondary was out of their element. The cornerbacks kept allowing third-and-long pass completions. Tramon Williams cost the team three gift points at the end of the first half. Johnson Bademosi is always oh-so-close to breaking up a touchdown, but he always still ultimately allows the touchdown. Charles Gaines had a couple of nice moments, but overall his speed just doesn't seem quite up to Pierre Desir magically appeared at the end of the game, but didn't contribute much.
