Amidst the start of the NFL Combine, the Cleveland Browns made a minor addition to their roster on Wednesday, signing defensive back Varmah Sonie.
Sonie is a smaller defensive back at 5-8, 180 lbs. He was an undrafted free agent in 2013 out of Northern Iowa. In 2014, he played for the Portland Thunder in the Arena Football League, accumulating 80 tackles and 9 interceptions. He was on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad for the final two weeks of the regular season.
At the end of the year, the Buccaneers opted to release Sonie instead of signing him to a reserve/futures contract. Now, he will have a chance to showcase his talent at a few of the Browns' offseason programs to see if he's worth keeping around for training camp.
