2015 NFL Mock Draft: Minnesota Vikings Select CB Trae Waynes at No. 11

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

With the No. 11 pick in the DBN 2015 NFL Mock Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select...

Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State

The selection and write-up were made by MConley17:

Offensively, the Vikings are building around Teddy Bridgewater should be the team's primary focus. He is consider to be a potential franchise quarterback who displayed flashes of a excellence late in the year. Some of the problems the offense has are left guard along with wide receivers. Unfortunately for the Vikings I don’t see a wide receiver worthy of coming off the board at 11 that hasn’t been already taken. The Vikings could go for a guard with a guy like Brandon Scherff.

The Vikings will try to also fill holes on defense which fit into Mike Zimmer’s defensive scheme. Currently on the rosters are players like Anthony Barr, Everson Griffen, Sharrif Flod and Xavier Rhodes. Trae Waynes is considered by many to be the best corner in this year’s class, and with the offenses in the NFC North, you can never have enough good defensive backs. At 6’1 with good cover skills, there’s a good chance that Waynes could step into the starting lineup across from Xavier Rhodes right away and push Captain Munnerlyn permanently into a slot role, which so far has been a disappointed for the Vikings. Waynes is probably the best available player in this scenario, and he could help a young, talented Minnesota defense take another step. Waynes has elite speed of 4.31, along with brute force that can become a real playmaker for the Vikings. I project him as the most NFL ready who could immediately start opposite of Rhodes.

The Vikings had a promising offensive year with Teddy Bridgewater guiding the team last year. Some may say they should continue to give him weapons, but when you are a good enough quarterback, you can make the weapons around you come from anywhere. The Vikings could use another cornerback to match up with the receivers in Green Bay and Detroit, and Waynes appears to be the best corner in this year's draft class.

The Cleveland Browns are up next, led by Adam Rice.
