The full contract details for Cleveland Browns TE Rob Housler were made available last week, but we're just now getting around to covering it in the table below. It is a one-year deal worth $1.76 million.
TE Rob Housler - Browns' Contract Breakdown | ||||
Base Salary | Signing Bonus | Workout Bonus | Total Cap Hit |

2015 | $1,000,000 | $750,000 | $10,000 |
$1,760,000 |
- Because this is a one-year deal, it is pretty straightforward. The $750,000 signing bonus is the only thing that is guaranteed, although the workout bonus is basically a guarantee as well. If the Browns go through training camp and decide that Housler isn't a good fit for the team, they can cut him to shave $1 million off the salary cap. If they have the cap space, though, cutting him doesn't really save much since he's not under contract next year.
- The Browns have three tight ends with relatively similar contracts. TE Gary Barnidge is in the final year of a 3-year deal, and has a $1.2 million cap figure this year. TE Jim Dray is in the second year of a 3-year deal, and has a $1.9 million cap figure this year. Housler's cap hit falls in between.
- A fun fact that I didn't realize: Dray and Housler were teammates in Arizona for three years.
I think it's impossible to tell who the team intends on using as their primary receiving tight end this year. The optimist would say that Housler could have a breakout year, but he's still very much an unproven player.
