2015 NFL Mock Draft: Detroit Lions Select OT Andrus Peat at No. 23

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

With the No. 23 pick in the DBN 2015 NFL Mock Draft, the Detroit Lions select...

Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford

The selection and write-up were made by tmptplayer:

The Lions have needs at DT (after losing Suh/Fairely), OL (after losing two starters) and WR.  Andrus Peat is evaluated by some as a top 10 talent and is an easy pick by the Lions here at #23.

Peat, the son of former NFL Guard Todd Peat, is a 6-7 317lb OT Junior out of Stanford with elite size and solid technique. He is very good at both run and pass blocking demonstrated against first rate competition in the Pac-12, but has the potential to grow to be elite.  Peat has been characterized as a tough, highly coachable knee bender with gobs of potential who sometimes needs to do better at keeping focused.

The Lions are already rumored to be considering moving their current LT Reiff to another position (even though they just picked up his 5th year option), and Peat gives them the flexibility to do so.  Even if they want to keep Reiff at LT, Peat has been working out at both tackle positions to provide flexibility for his prospective team.

In the end I think Detroit would rather draft a DT at this position, but with the players left on the board they will be very satisfied drafting Peat at #23.

I think the 49ers had the roughest offseason this year, but things were pretty rough for the Lions too. They had far too little to show for the special defensive front they had in Detroit for years, and now both Suh and Fairley are out of there. With that said, Detroit shouldn't be obligated to take a defensive tackle here, because nobody is going to be able to come in and truly "replace" who they just lost. Peat is valued as one of the better tackles in this year's class, so I like the pick.

The Arizona Cardinals are up next, led by a2342432a.
