2015 DBN Mock Draft: Chicago Bears Select WR Kevin White at No. 7

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

With the seventh pick in the DBN 2015 NFL Mock Draft, the Chicago Bears select...

Kevin White, WR, West Virginia

The selection and write-up were made by Barnestorm:

This is unfamiliar draft territory for the Chicago Bears. The Bears earned the seventh draft pick after a 5-11 record their worst in over a decade. They finished dead last in the NFC central behind the Packers, Lions and improving Vikings. The Marc Tresman experiment failed, but it looks as though the Bears have found a solid coaching staff led by experienced head coach John Fox who was fired from the Broncos.  Adam Gase, offensive coordinator, follows Fox to the Bears and defensive coordinator Vic Fagio comes on board from the 49ers.

The Bears will move to a 3-4 defense for the first time in their history. The Bears 6th General Manager is Ryan Pace, who comes over from the Saints as a pro personnel director. The Bears have been very active in the offseason acquiring Ray McDonald, Jarvis Jenkins, Parnell McPhee, Eddie Royal and Zack Miller.  The Bears have plenty of holes to fill needing defensive line help, inside linebacker and backfield help.  On offense, Jay Culter is the quarterback and is probably on a short leash but for now he is the starter. The Bears have a good offensive line, could use some help at right tackle. and a backup for Matt Forte should be addressed. With the trade of Brandon Marshall, the wide receiver position needs to be addressed as well.

Kevin White is the best player available, certainly a top 10 prospect and happens to fill a need. He is an explosive player, deep threat with tremendous speed. White would stabilize the offense and give Gase the players needed to excel on offense. With the drafting of White, the wide receiver position would be a position of strength for the Bears. Other considerations for the seventh pick are:

  • Randy Gregory, who may be the best edge rusher but his red flags are too risky for a new organization,
  • Danny Shelton, the nose tackle would be a great fit, but only in a trade down scenario.
  • Trey Waynes, a cornerback, was also under consideration but the Bears used their first round pick last year on Kyle Fuller.

White becomes an immediate starter and when teamed up with Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal this becomes a very dynamic explosive set of receivers. Add in Matt Forte and Martellus Bennett, I expect the Bears to have the kind of offense that can score with the Packers, Lions and Vikings. Additionally, White can add immediate impact in the return game. The Bears will keep up on the offensive side, it will take a couple of years to get the defense in shape.

On one hand, the Bears don't have a replacement for Marshall. On the other hand, teams don't necessarily need to have two No. 1 receivers, and Jeffery is already a very talented receiver for the Bears. Chicago will need to add a receiver at some point, but I think Danny Shelton would be too hard to pass up.

The Atlanta Falcons are up next, led by OhioCityBrownsBeliever.
