Browns Don't Start Off as Fantasy Darlings in ESPN's Top 300 List

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

It's never too early to start thinking about fantasy football. The Cleveland Browns have not typically been fantasy darlings in the NFL, and things are even worse this year now that big-name targets like WR Josh Gordon and TE Jordan Cameron are absent. Cleveland has been saved by the running back position when it comes to fantasy relevance, but with a trio of running backs who might share the load again, it's hard to project which one is worth drafting high.

As of this post, here are the Browns that are ranked in the Top 300 of ESPN's fantasy football list, released earlier this week:

No. 65: RB Isaiah Crowell (30th ranked RB)
No. 95: RB Terrance West (42nd ranked RB)
No. 168: RB Duke Johnson (67th ranked RB)
No. 203: WR Dwayne Bowe (68th ranked WR)
No. 235: WR Andrew Hawkins (73rd ranked WR)
No. 256: DST Cleveland (16th ranked DST)

Absent from the list is a quarterback, tight end, or kicker, and I'm not surprised. QB Josh McCown is a journeyman who is probably viewed as the worst starting quarterback in the NFL, and Cleveland plans on running the ball a lot. The team added TE Rob Housler this offseason, but that wasn't enough to replace Cameron's value. You can forget the kicker position, considering we really don't have any idea who will man that position.
