Browns Waive OL Nick McDonald

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns waived offensive lineman Nick McDonald with an injury designation on Wednesday. As of this post, Cleveland's roster sits at 89 players.Back in February, McDonald was 1 of 5 players who I speculated could become a roster casualty at some point.

The Browns claimed McDonald off waivers last July from the San Diego Chargers. He was recovering from a broken wrist, which happened to heal up right when C Alex Mack was lost for the season with a broken leg. McDonald started at center from Week 8-13, but due to his struggles, he was benched in favor of OL Ryan Seymour. McDonald returned to the starting lineup in Week 17 due to an injury to Seymour.

Cleveland re-signed Seymour this offseason, who seemed to show more promise at center than McDonald did. Also, with Mack returning and the versatility of either John Greco or Cameron Erving being able to play center, McDonald simply wasn't needed any more.
