According to Inside The League and later other reports, the Cleveland Browns have hired Lake Dawson as a senior personnel associate.
New @Browns hire Lake Dawson will be a senior personnel associate, i.e., area scout.— Neil Stratton (@InsideTheLeague) June 4, 2015
Dawson began his executive career in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks back in 2001 as a pro personnel assistant. In 2007, Dawson was hired by the Tennessee Titans as the director of pro personnel. In 2011, he was promoted to vice president of football operations. The Titans parted ways with him this past January after eight years with the club.
Dawson has interviewed for some general manager positions in the past, including this offseason with the Chicago Bears. Why would he suddenly take an apparent "step back" in his NFL career, going from a general manager career to an "area scout?" It's possible that his GM resume lacked background in scouting, and that Cleveland can be a good stepping stone for his future.
