Fan Perception: What We Learned About the Browns' Cornerbacks Heading Into Training Camp

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

In each of our training camp previews, we conduct a poll at the end of the post. The polls are intended to gauge fan perception about certain players or roles on the Cleveland Browns heading into training camp. They help set the initial expectations that fans have on certain players. Here is a summary of each of those polls for the cornerbacks:

--------------------------------

CB Polls

48% of fans believe that Justin Gilbert will be stuck as the team's No. 4 cornerback, but that doesn't mean it will be the same type of season he had from a year ago. Cornerbacks are bound to get banged up, and Gilbert could be counted on at some point. If K'Waun Williams gets hurt, we might also see Gilbert play the outside with Tramon Williams moving over to the slot. If GIlbert's snaps are still limited, hopefully they are a "more productive limited," like when he had the pick six last season against Andrew Luck. [Read Part 1 of the CB Preview]

CB Polls

This is about the result I expected -- 6 cornerbacks. If that is the case, doesn't it mean that Joe Haden, Tramon Williams, K'Waun Williams, Justin Gilbert, Pierre Desir, and Charles Gaines are virtual locks for the 53-man roster? Robert Nelson's best chance might be if he can show off as a backup safety and compete directly with Johnson Bademosi. [Read Part 2 of the CB Preview]
