After CB Charles Gaines' interception at the end of the first quarter, the Browns started inside the red zone to begin the second quarter. The Browns couldn't punch it in, though, and RB Duke Johnson had a "welcome to the NFL" moment when he took a lick from a defender on 3rd-and-11. K Carey Spear came on and hit the 36-yard field goal to make it a 17-0 game.
The Browns' defense forced another stop but went three-and-out in their ensuing drive. Tampa Bay finally got things going on offense, first with a big pass play to WR Vincent Jackson and then a 19-yard rushing touchdown by RB Doug Martin to make it a 17-7 game. The Browns responded with a three-and-out, and then Tampa Bay missed a field goal attempt to give the ball back to Cleveland.
The Browns had picked up a first down on a 3rd-and-14, but the officials brought it back due to a chop block on OG John Greco. The problem? Upon replay, there was no chop block. Cleveland had to punt. CB Pierre Desir suffered what looks to be a concussion on the next drive, but the Browns' defense forced another punt. QB Josh McCown had a chance to lead the two-minute offense. The half ended with McCown taking a brutal shot on third down, to no one's fault but his own. It's 17-7 heading into the third quarter of play.
Protect ya neck, McCown. Decked https://t.co/MjoP9kOKTJ
