Below, we analyze the snap counts on offense for the Cleveland Browns' Week 3 preseason match against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Quarterback
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
QB | Josh McCown | 46 | 70% | 17-of-23 for 117 yards, 2 TDs. 3 carries, 20 yards. |
QB | Thaddeus Lewis |
20 | 30% | 4-of-5 for 66 yards. 2 carries, 11 yards, 1 TD. |
There was no doubt that Josh McCown treated this like a regular season game, putting his body on the line for several scrambles and then taking a big-time shot at the end of the first half. The stats look very pretty for McCown, and he was sharp on his first and final drive. Everything in the second quarter was rough, from off-target passes to not leading the two-minute drill in an effective manner. Thaddeus Lewis looked the best he has this preseason.
Running Back
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
RB | Isaiah Crowell | 24 | 36% | 8 carries, 27 yards, 3.4 avg. 2 catches, 12 yards (2 targets). |
RB | Terrance West | 17 | 26% | 7 carries, 26 yards, 3.7 avg. 1 catch, 5 yards (1 target). |
FB | Malcolm Johnson |
16 | 24% | No stats registered. |
RB | Jalen Parmele | 11 | 17% | 8 carries, 25 yards, 3.1 avg. |
RB | Timothy Flanders | 9 | 14% | 5 carries, 6 yards, 1.2 avg. |
RB | Duke Johnson |
5 | 8% | 1 carry, 4 yards, 4.0 avg. 1 catch, 1 yard (2 targets). |
The Browns' running backs had a couple of big-hitter runs, and then a mix of runs that went nowhere. There seemed to be very little in between. It was disappointing to see Duke Johnson suffer a concussion after having got the start. We're no further to knowing who the opening day running back will be.
Wide Receiver
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
WR | Taylor Gabriel | 26 | 39% | 4 catches,30 yards (4 targets). |
WR | Brian Hartline | 25 | 38% | 1 catch, 3 yards, 1 TD (3 targets). |
WR | Andrew Hawkins | 24 | 36% | 1 catch, 8 yards (1 target). |
WR | Travis Benjamin | 18 | 27% | 4 catches, 39 yards (4 targets). |
WR | Dwayne Bowe |
15 | 23% | 0 catches (3 targets). |
WR | Josh Lenz | 14 | 21% | 1 catch, 48 yards (2 targets). |
WR | Vince Mayle | 13 | 20% | No stats registered. |
WR | Darius Jennings | 10 | 15% | No stats registered. |
WR | Shane Wynn | 6 | 9% | 1 catch, 6 yards (1 target). |
Dwayne Bowe dropped the first pass that went to him and then Josh McCown misfired on the next attempt. Both passes were actually off target. The good news is that Bowe was getting open, so hopefully McCown can iron out the issue of getting the pair in sync. Brian Hartline and Taylor Gabriel have the sideline toe tap down pat already.
Tight End
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
TE | Gary Barnidge | 35 | 53% | 1 catch, 7 yards, 1 TD (1 target). |
TE | Jim Dray | 27 | 41% | 2 catches, 12 yards (2 targets). |
TE | Rob Housler | 15 | 23% | 1 catch, 5 yards (1 target). |
TE | E.J. Bibbs | 13 | 20% | 1 catch, 7 yards (1 target). |
TE | Anthony Ezeakunne |
7 | 11% | No stats registered. |
How is it possible that E.J. Bibbs breaks multiple tackles every single time he touches the ball? You'd think one of these times someone would be able to bring him down like most other players in the NFL.
Offensive Line
Pos | Player | Plays | % | Stats |
OL | Joe Thomas | 46 | 70% | |
OL | Joel Bitonio | 46 | 70% | |
OL | Alex Mack | 46 | 70% | |
OL | John Greco | 46 | 70% | |
OL | Mitchell Schwartz | 46 | 70%
OL | Karim Barton | 20 | 30% | |
OL | Eric Olsen | 20 | 30% | |
OL | Cameron Erving | 16 | 24%
OL | Andrew McDonald |
13 | 20% | |
OL | Vinston Painter | 7 | 11%
OL | Erle Ladson |
7 | 11% |
I crossed my fingers and just kept hoping that our starting five would make it through the game healthy, and it appears that they did. I expect Joe Thomas and Alex Mack to get next week's game off, with the other three starters playing a little bit before giving way to the reserves.
