The Browns' defense stopped the Jets on 4th-and-1 near midfield early in the second quarter. With QB Josh McCown in the concussion protocol, QB Johnny Manziel entered the game on just the team's second offensive possession of the year. Facing a 3rd-and-19, Manziel found a streaking WR Travis Benjamin down the left sideline for a 54-yard touchdown! After a couple of penalties on the extra point, K Travis Coons was good from 48 yards out to five the Browns a 7-0 lead.

FS Tashaun Gipson then picked off a pass by QB Ryan Fitzpatrick on the next drive, but WR Brandon Marshall immediately ripped the ball away from him to give the Jets the ball inside the red zone. RB Chris Ivory then punched it in from 10 yards out to tie the game at 7-7.

The Browns' defense held tough on their next drive and were aided when a snap went over Fitzpatrick's head on third down. Cleveland started with the ball at the 35 yard line after the punt. The drive continued after an absurd catch by WR Brian Hartline. The Browns had to settle for a field goal, which Coons hit from 26 yards out to give Cleveland a 10-7 lead. The Jets operated the two-minute drill with ease, though, capping the drive off with a slingshot 15-yard touchdown pass to WR Eric Decker to give the Jets a 14-10 lead heading into the second half.
