The Cleveland Browns made got their roster down to 53 players on Saturday and there could be a few more moves on Sunday, as they could claim a couple of players off waivers and form their practice squad.
It's always fun to take a brief look at former Browns players who were cut around the league. You may not recognize a lot of these names, as some of them only spent a couple of weeks during the offseason on the team, or maybe a year's worth of training camp. These cuts include players from a week or two ago too:
Bills - OLB Quentin Groves
Broncos - DT Siona Fua
Broncos - P Spencer Lanning
Buccaneers - OG Garrett Gilkey
Cardinals - P Dave Zastudil
Chiefs - OL Anthony Dima
Chiefs - ILB James-Michael Johnson
Cowboys - FB Ray Agnew
Cowboys - WR Phil Bates
Dolphins - WR LaRon Byrd
Dolphins - WR Kevin Cone
Dolphins - TE Gerell Robinson
Dolphins - DL Calvin Barnett
49ers - CB Leon McFadden
Falcons - WR Carlton Mitchell
Jets - QB Josh Johnson
Lions - C Braxston Cave
Lions - DB Nate Ness
Packers - C Garth Gerhart
Panthers - OT Martin Wallace
Panthers - OLB Jason Trusnik
Panthers - CB T.J. Heath
Patriots - WR Jonathan Krause
Patriots - OL Caylin Hauptmann
Raiders - RB Trent Richardson
Ravens - FB Kiero Small
Saints - RB Edwin Baker
Saints - TE Alex Smith
Seahawks - OL Keavon Milton
Steelers - ILB L.J. Fort
Texans - OL Aaron Adams
Titans - QB Alex Tanney
Titans - S Josh Aubrey
On the bright side, there were some former Browns players who overcame the odds and ended up making other teams' 53-man rosters, particularly at the wide receiver position. Congratulations to the following players:
RB Dion Lewis made the Patriots and could be their starting running back in Week 1 against the Steelers.
WR Jordan Norwood made the Broncos and will be catching passes from QB Peyton Manning. He may also serve as their punt returner.
WR Greg Little made the Bengals. This one is probably a blessing in disguise (although he did have a surprisingly good preseason).
WR Willie Snead made the Saints and was considered one of the stars of their camp.
CB Trevin Wade made the Giants as a backup cornerback.
Let us know if there are any players we missed on either list!
