Late Sunday night, the news broke that the Cleveland Browns were bringing QB Austin Davis in on Monday with the intention of signing him. On Labor Day, we can say that it is now official -- the Browns have signed Davis to their 53-man roster. I was concerned about what type of corresponding roster move the Browns would have to make in signing Davis, but they made the best of the circumstance by placing rookie CB Charles Gaines on injured reserve with a designation to return. Gaines was impressive in the preseason as a nickel corner, but CB K'Waun Williams already has that role comfortably locked down. Gaines' hamstring injury gave the Browns an excuse to stash him for a bit, as he was unlikely to be active on gameday due to the team's depth at the position.
The Browns also announced that they've signed DL Dylan Wynn and OL Garth Gerhart to the practice squad.
