Browns' Defensive Snap Counts and Stats vs. Bengals

Looking at the defensive snap counts in the Browns' 31-17 loss to the Bengals.

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

Below, we analyze the snap counts and stats on defense for the Cleveland Browns' Week 7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Defensive Line

Pos Player Plays % Stats
DL Carl Nassib 47 77% 2 tackles, 2 assists (4 combined). 0.5 sack, 2 QH.
DL Danny Shelton 40 66% 3 tackles (3 combined).
DL Jamie Meder 37 61% 2 tackles, 2 assists (4 combined).
DL Xavier Cooper
33 54% 3 tackles, 1 assist (4 combined).
DL Stephen Paea 18 30% No stats registered.
DL Tyrone Holmes
12 20% No stats registered.

I feel like just going up and down each positional unit and going "F...F...F" (like A Christmas Story). Not even the run defense, which I've been able to tip my cap to in almost every game, showed up. Xavier Cooper saw over half the snaps in his first game back.

Outside Linebacker

Pos Player Plays % Stats
OLB Emmanuel Ogbah 55 90% 5 tackles, 1 assist (6 combined). 2 sacks, 2 TFL, 2 QH.
OLB Cam Johnson 19 31% No stats registered.
OLB Joe Schobert
3 5% No stats registered.

The outside linebackers weren't planned on being used much this week. Joe Schobert only saw three snaps, Corey Lemonier was inactive, and Cam Johnson saw 31% of the snaps. Emmanuel Ogbah is almost being used more as a defensive end it seems, and it appeared as though the team is starting to toy with him coming from the opposite side of the line too. He has three sacks in the past two games.

Inside Linebacker

Pos Player Plays % Stats
ILB Christian Kirksey 60 98% 4 tackles, 4 assists (8 combined). 0.5 sack, 1 TFL, 1 QH, 1 pass defended.
ILB Demario Davis 60 98% 2 tackles, 2 assists (4 combined).
ILB Tank Carder
1 2% No stats registered.
ILB Dominique Alexander
1 2% No stats registered.

Christian Kirksey had a few shots at Andy Dalton, but Demario Davis had a poor game against the run. Dominique Alexander played his first defensive snap of the season at some point.

Safety

Pos Player Plays % Stats
S Tracy Howard
61 100% 3 tackles, 1 assist (4 combined).
S Derrick Kindred
33 54% 2 tackles, 2 assists (4 combined).
S Ibraheim Campbell 27 44% 2 tackles (2 combined).

This position can't possibly get any more underwhelming. (sigh)

Cornerback

Pos Player Plays % Stats
CB Jamar Taylor 61 100% 3 tackles, 2 assists (5 combined).
CB Tramon Williams 61 100% 2 tackles, 1 assist (3 combined).
CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun 42 69% 4 tackles (4 combined). 1 pass defended.

It took a couple of weeks, but a team burned Jamar Taylor again with the double move, and it cost Cleveland. It's remarkable to think that as gouged as Cleveland was defensively, if you take away the Hail Mary, they could've been right in this game.
