Josh McCown passed an important hurdle during Wednesday’s practice. He was a full participant in practice for the first time since he hurt his shoulder in Week 2. The team confirmed that he has been medically cleared to play again, which puts him as the favorite to start this Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. Hue Jackson still wants to evaluate him during practice before making his starting status official:
Jackson says Josh McCown has been medically cleared to play but will wait to make a decision after week of practice.

Cody Kessler is still in the concussion protocol, so Kevin Hogan is in line to be the backup to McCown. McCown faced the Jets in Week 1 last season, but was knocked out of the game with a concussion after he went helicopter mode on the first drive. Cleveland, at 0-7, won’t get a better chance to pick up a win at home the rest of the season than they will the 2-5 Jets.
