Scooby Wright signed by Arizona Cardinals

NFL: Cleveland Browns-Training Camp Scott R. Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

On Tuesday, the Arizona Cardinals signed inside linebacker Scooby Wright off the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad. Wright was the team’s seventh-round draft choice this year and has spent all season on the practice squad.

The Cardinals had suffered several injuries on the back-end of the roster and needed someone to step up as a special teams contributor. I’m a little bummed that the Browns didn’t try to retain Wright by bringing him up to the 53-man roster. They had an open roster spot waiting for someone, but decided to promote defensive tackle Gabe Wright from the practice squad for what seems like the tenth time this year.

Here is how Wright found out the news:

Wright didn’t receive a lot of playing time this preseason, but he did have a great one-on-one goal line stuff of a running back. No one has been able to overtake Tank Carder as the special teams ace — first it was Hayes Pullard, and now it’s Wright. Carder is under contract through 2017.
