Browns and 49ers both win, so Cleveland keeps the No. 1 draft pick

The best of both worlds came to fruition for Cleveland Browns fans on Saturday, representing a true Christmas miracle! After starting the season 0-14 and being slotted for the No. 1 overall pick, the Browns snapped their losing streak with a 20-17 victory over the San Diego Chargers.

One group of fans were thrilled about Cleveland avoiding the history books — the shame of having to be lumped in with the 0-16 Detroit Lions. The other group of fans were irate that after the misery fans and this organization has been through all season, they just cost themselves the No. 1 overall pick.

The San Francisco 49ers were 1-13 heading into the day, but have had a much easier schedule than Cleveland when you go by the SOS numbers. That means that if both teams finished tied with the same record, San Francisco would own the tiebreaker.

The 49ers were playing a 4:00 PM game today, so when Cleveland won, it opened the door for San Francisco to lose out and secure the No. 1 overall pick. The Rams' touchdown with 10:32 left in the fourth quarter gave them a 21-7 lead over the 49ers. But then...San Francisco decided they didn’t want the No. 1 overall pick.

And then, going for two points and the win...

YES!!!

The 49ers are now 2-13 on the season, and the Browns are 1-14. That means the Browns avoided going winless and still have the No. 1 pick of the draft.

The only thing that can mess things up is a win in Pittsburgh next week. Now, don’t get me wrong -- I’d love to beat the Steelers any day of the week. But, that is a game in which Pittsburgh should destroy the Browns by about 20 points.
