Friday afternoon, the NFL released the following statement saying that Cleveland Browns WR Jordan Payton has been suspended for the team’s final four games of the regular season. Payton violated the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances.
One thing is for sure: the club will not really miss Payton on gameday, because he hasn’t really been a part of the action all season. A fifth-round draft pick, he has played in four games but has just 1 catch for 3 yards in limited snaps. We don’t even need to think about a depth chart change or adding another receiver to the roster, considering that Rishard Higgins and Ricardo Louis are already dying for playing time as it is.
Earlier in the day, the Browns officially activated QB Robert Griffin III from IR and waived OL Matt McCants in the process. The team will make another move by Saturday to get their roster back up to 53 players after Payton’s suspension.
