The news broke Saturday that the Cleveland Browns were hosting free agent quarterback Robert Griffin III for a visit. On Sunday, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk said that they are hearing about the Browns doing some more due diligence about the former Redskins quarterback:
A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the Browns are making calls to people who know Griffin to find out who may know more about the player and, specifically, his character.
Florio notes that if the Browns decide to reach out to Kyle Shanahan, it could make for an awkward conversation, given his resignation from the team last year. It probably shouldn't be as big of a deal since Ray Farmer and Mike Pettine are both gone, though -- most of Shanahan's former peers in Cleveland have exited the building.
Florio also ponders if the Browns' interest in RGIII could be used to make 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick blink with respect to lowering his restructured contract demands in order to play for Hue Jackson.
