The Latest on the Falcons, Rams, and Jaguars' Interest in Browns C Alex Mack

Since Alex Mack opted out of his contract, which teams look to be in play for the veteran center?

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

With the "legal tampering" period now in full swing, get ready to hear rumors left and right about potential free agents. The first one related to the Cleveland Browns is about C Alex Mack. Jason Cole of Bleacher Report reports that the three teams who are somewhat linked to Mack are the Falcons, Rams, and Jaguars, but that of the three, the Falcons are the only team really looking to make a play for him:

"Mack has generated extensive interest already from the Atlanta Falcons," said Cole. "The Los Angeles Rams have also been linked to Mack, but that's primarily because team president Kevin Demoff is the son of Mack's agent, Marvin Demoff. Talking to Rams sources, it is unlikely that the Rams are going to meet Mack's demands at this point in time. The Jacksonville Jaguars were willing to meet Mack's demands in 2014. However, they've peeled off in the interest because of age. Mack is 30 years old right now and is not expected to be worth the king of long-term, high-cost deal that he's expected to generate. In addition, over the last two seasons, the Jaguars believe they've improved their depth on the offensive line. Expect that the Falcons are going to be the top spot in the chase for Mack at this point in time."

If the Falcons are the primary team in the chase for Mack, then his odds of returning to the Browns might be better than expected. Former Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who walked out on the team after one year and seems to have player-coach issues everywhere he goes, is in charge of the Falcons' offense. Jason Pinkston, a former teammate of Mack who has believed the veteran center will remain in Cleveland, laughed at the notion of Mack going to Atlanta, purely because of Shanahan:

We'll continue to follow other teams' interest in Mack and other Browns free agents as more news comes along.
