The Chiefs have a pretty darn solid team; there aren't many glaring holes they need to fill. I looked at cornerback, since the team lost starter Sean Smith this off-season, but didn't see value there after Apple went a few picks earlier. I looked at pass rusher, with Houston injured, Tamba Hali aging, and 2014 first rounder Dee Ford still unproven. Ogbah and Floyd were tempting here in the late first.

Ultimately, I decided to add to a strength of the Chiefs and add to the defensive line with Vernon Butler. At 6' 4", 323 pounds, with 35" arms, Butler is large, long, and surprisingly light on his feet. He has a beastly bull rush and plays the passing lanes well, getting his hands up to deflect passes. He can play NT and DE in the Chiefs 3-4 defense, but wouldn't have to start right away, which is probably for the best as he still needs to refine his technique. He gives the Chiefs flexibility with Dontari Poe due to be a free agent next year. (Several articles I read indicated that their GM has a history of drafting for anticipated needs a year in advance). In a draft loaded with defensive tackles, Butler has the potential to be the best of the bunch. His strength, size, and short area burst remind me of Shaun Rogers, and some day, maybe Butler's belly will be the obsession of a young, handsome, charismatic, and well respected Chiefs blog poster.
