Browns claim K Jaden Oberkrom off waivers, part ways with K Brad Craddock

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

On Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns announced that they've claimed K Jaden Oberkrom off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars. To make room for the move, the team waived K Brad Craddock.

Craddock was signed to the 90-man roster heading into rookie minicamp. In addition to Craddock (Maryland), at rookie minicamp last week, the Browns had three kickers trying out: Andrew Baggett (Missouri), Chad Hedlund (SMU), and Brent Wahle (Ohio Dominican).

Oberkrom (6-2, 186 lbs) is an undrafted rookie out of TCU. He was 21-of-25 on field goals last year. In Dane Bruglar's draft guide from this year, Oberkrom, Craddock, Hedlund, and Wahle were in the 6-10 spots (in no particular order) in his rankings. One might think that all of the kickers in camp is a sign of danger for Travis Coons, but that shouldn't be the case. Cleveland simply tried to identify the best candidate to bring in to compete with Coons; it wasn't one of the guys from last week's rookie minicamp, so they went outside.
