Fan perception: what we learned about the Browns' wide receivers heading into training camp

Here is a summary of each of our training camp preview polls for the Cleveland Browns’ wide receivers:

Figuring that Corey Coleman and Andrew Hawkins had spots in the top three receivers, our poll on part 1 asked about Terrelle Pryor and Taylor Gabriel. I think Pryor will show his maturation as a receiver and end up starting, but that wasn’t the most popular opinion. 56% of fans believe that Pryor will not start. With respect to Gabriel’s roster spot, a staggering 81% of fans believe he will be cut. [Read Part 1 of the WR Preview]

In the comments section of the first wide receiver preview, many of the fans who voted against Pryor starting voiced that they believed Rashard Higgins would take the other starting role opposite Coleman. Higgins was the final rookie drafted by the team, so it seems unusual to think he’d leap ahead of Ricardo Louis (4th round) and Jordan Payton (5th round). However, Louis might be a one-dimensional threat who is still a bit raw and Payton missed a lot of the offseason programs while finishing college. Those factors, combined with Higgins having been projected as a second-round pick by some media outlets, has lead to a higher approval rating for him. [Read Part 2 of the WR Preview]

The last three receivers are fighting for a spot on the practice squad. Darius Jennings had the most support at 48% because he’s a familiar face who made some contributions in the final month of 2015. Dennis Parks probably got the edge over Rannell Hall because Parks is a rookie. [Read Part 3 of the WR Preview]
