The Cleveland Browns escaped the first preseason game of the year without any injuries to their key contributors. However, two players vying for a roster spot went down mid-way through the third quarter, and on Saturday, head coach Hue Jackson gave an update on their status.
First, let’s start with wide receiver Rannell Hall. After catching a 19-yard pass from Austin Davis, Hall tried to get up but couldn’t. Trainers rushed on to the field immediately and he had to be helped off. The injury was reported as an ankle injury, but it turned out to be much worse. He suffered a broken leg and will miss the remainder of the season. Although I hadn’t projected him to make the team, there were a couple of people who felt he was having a really good camp and could have sneaked on to the roster. He will likely be placed on injured reserve.
The other player with an injury update is Davis, who was being evaluated for a concussion after rather foolishly trying to move side-to-side as two defenders were closing in on him as a runner. Davis is now confirmed to be in the concussion protocol and will probably miss the second preseason game.
After the game, Terrelle Pryor also had X-rays on his left hand, but they came back negative.
